THIS IS SOCIALIZING
Monday, September 13th, 2004THE LIST FOR WEEKS 8-24
From one of my old guidedog handouts – Never force a puppy into or near anything it is fearful of at any age. Be sure and socialize at different times of the day and night. Before 16 weeks all puppies need to be worked out at night after dark. All of these experieces should be done “ae appropriately”, only when you are 85% certain the puppy will not have a major reaction can they go say, near an airplane and only if you know they will have a good recovery if they do react. The idea of socializing is not to scare them but to expose them to the big wide world in which they will be working. In other words, do set your puppy up for sucess and plan your outings accordingly.
