Matilija Loe’s Amazeme, JH

Jan 8, 2011 Good news! Carmen is pregnant- The ultrasound showed 5 or 6 pups! That usually means a normal size litter as they don't always see all the pups. I am very happy to know all that progesterone testing paid off and we have more then a few in there. Dec, 2010 Carmen is in season! She will be bred around Dec 10 with pups due around the middle of February. She will be bred to: BISS Ch. Elhid's Average Joe Carrie Eberhardt sent me this great photo of Carmen. Thanks Carrie! Carmen's sire Int. Ch. Ole, JH turned 12 this month. On the website go first to: progeny and scroll down- Carmen is on the right hand side about half way down the page. Here is a link to Carmen's page: Carmen now has three legs on her SH title, I am bringing her home to breed her in December. "Carmen" (Int. Ch. Ole X Matilija Loe's Sweet Reality) Dob- 10/12/05 Link to Carmen's clearances: OFA 10/18/09- SH Leg! Carmen just passed her first leg of her Senior Hunter title! Congratulations to Cheri Bates, (her trainer and handler) and Carmen! Three more legs to go! Carrie Eberhardt and I bred Carmen in December to Ch. Puckett's Andre at Dickendall. Carmen free whelped nine pups in February. The pups were raised in Texas by another breeder as we wanted to keep Carmen in training after the litter and Cheryl and Val Mansfield(friends of Carrie's and breeders) had come forward offering to raise the litter. It is tough to schedule a litter for a bitch in training and you start to look at everything else that goes into that process of training and titling a talented dog as well as working, travel, caring for family and other dogs ad infinitum! Carrie has since decided not to continue co-owning Carmen and not to keep a puppy. I sent Carmen back to Cheri Bates for training for her SH- it is too much money right now for me to keep a pup AND keep her in training. I decided to go ahead and put the money into her to finish one more hunting title while I had the chance to do that. I can do the senior but Carmen will be coming home after that. I did get to go see the pups and Carmen was happy to see me. I can't say I would put 5K into another Lab and have them gone over two years, there are just too many decisions that you have to give to other folks around your dog. And that is one reason Carrie is also no longer co-owning, much of dog breeding is work and the fun in many cases IS in watching them learn and doing the training yourself. Neither Carrie or I are in dogs to have them gone this much! A good lesson and luckily Carmen loves the training, she is a workaholic type Labrador, a true to type water dog. This type of field work and training does separate the big boys from the men in the crowd! I can see now why most conformation folks don't pursue hunting titles, if you do it yourself you can get to Jr. If you don't it costs a fortune and you are with out a good dog for most of their life, I am now going on the third year of Carmen training in Texas, granted she had six months off and is ready to title or trial this fall but that is a long chuck of time. I do want to show other breeders and Lab folks that show dogs can get advanced titles, that show breeders can breed water dogs and not just fluffy, fat dogs that walk out to a bird and pull it in by the wing. I am just not sure it is worth the money. Not an ego thing with me at all- it is important to the breed to have dogs with great instinct that also look like a Labrador should. June 08 Carmen passed her fourth test and is now a Junior Hunter! She will stay in training with Cheri Bates who is working on her Master title, this girl may be good enough to skip the Senior and go straight to Master level. Cheri loves working with her and we are lucky to have a trainer recognize talent in this Labrador from 100% show lines. But she is a Lab and I don't breed for couch potatoes- Carmen has instinct and loves her birds! That would make her a Lab regardless of her breeding. Thank you Cheri!!! Two for Two! March 29, 2008 Carmen was entered in her first JH test- she passed! March 30, her second test and another pass! Congratulations to Cheri Bates- Carmen's trainer- two for two- can't get better then that! Cheri is already training Carmen for her SH- this dog has the perfect job! Hips are OFA excellent, elbows normal! Here is the link to her OFA records: Carmen Clearances normal for age. (Hips appear to be excellent!) Heart Doppler clear, June 07, Thryoid normal. I am now doing hearts and thryoid on all dogs so Carmen went in for the heart clinic. 8/20/07: Carmen is going to Texas for gun dog training at the beginning of September. Carrie Eberhardt of Legasea Labradors will be showing her in that time. Hopefully she'll have a title before coming home in early spring. 6/1/07 Update: Carmen is now home for good, I took her back instead of a pup from Jewel's current litter. Carmen is settling in just fine and having fun playing with Big bro Bart and her baby cousin Sally. We are looking forward to having Carmen in shows, the field(she love to trieve), the bed-(ahh-someday when she isn't so wiggly), and even the obedience or agility ring. The future is bright for this smart, active, beautiful girl. Carmen was a single pup, one that we raised here as it was tough for the Loe's (for ANY singleton) and I felt managing her here while she was small would be easier. I named her Amazeme as she better! With one pup it would be rare to have that one be a "keeper" but she is, she is amazing at 18 mo- she does need more muscle in the rear and has to lose about 15 pounds but the frame is there. I am excited to be able to have her back and really thank the Loe's for making a very hard decision and allowing me to keep Carmen.---- At age two, I will be x-raying hips, elbows, shoulders and hocks with this girl as she was always so heavy as well as ultrasounding her heart, optigen testing, thyroid testing, cerf, patellas, all this to get some data on this breeding. (Current blood work is normal- thryoid is 3.2 and not abnormalities, she is 84 pounds- ugh.) I already like the fact that she can eat anything, she has been on kibbles and bits at times, on lamb and rice, on chicken- no ear problems, no skin issues she seems to be as healthy a dog as I could hope for.--- Below is Carmen at the San Diego Labrador Retriever Specialty Feb 18, 2007. Thank you Carrie Eberhardt for taking pictures for me! Carmen needs to lose about ten pounds but the structure is there. By the end of the weekend she had learned a lot and we both had fun. Road trips are so good for Labradors! Carmen at SDLRC 2/07 Show News: Carmen wins the 12-18 month class at the Ventura Dog Franciers Spring show. There were four in her class! Carmen will be going to the San Diego Labrador Specialty on Feb 18, 2007. Carmen at 12 months. (Read about Carmen's visit home) Carmen We're excited about our newest Ole baby, and can't wait for her to grow up! Carmen at 12 weeks.
