Matilija NDSDF Hero
"Hero" born here at our home was purchased by three friends of mine and donated to the Search Dog foundation. I was already donating a puppy from that litter of ten to search and rescue, Hero had such potential that my friends could not let her go to a pet home. This pup needed a job!
She is now a FEMA certified advanced search dog. Hero went to New Orleans as well as other deployments in the past few years. Her name was not due to her job- her litter was born the year our high school did the musical "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to The Forum". Hero was named after the main character, I had so many girls in that Chuck/Jewel litter Hero had to have a boy name! It fit her well and now especially fitting in her role as Search dog. Read About a deployment that Hero and her partner Su Vodrazka had last year:
Metro Link Crash
Heath is very important in any dog and I believe more so in a working dog. I pay all owners $100 to x-ray their puppies for me. Out of ten pups in Hero's litter 8 have been x-rayed clear of hip and elbow dysplasia, they are optigen "A" by birth.
